Best Robot Vacuums and Mop Combos
The best way to keep your home tidy is to use a robotic vacuum. It will nab pet hair, dust and other surface debris before it becomes a bigger problem.
Some robots sync with smart assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant for a hands-free experience. Look for models that recharge and resume cleaning where they left off.
1. iRobot s8
This smart robot vacuum and mop combination is an excellent option for homes with a variety of. It comes with a fantastic navigation system that incorporates GPS and laser sensors. It also has a lot of features and controls that are accessible through the app. It also has a handy feature which allows you to create cleaning zones in areas that require additional attention, as well as Keep Out zones in areas that you don't wish it to go. It also receives software updates, similar to the other Roomba products, which make it better over time.
It's expensive however, it's also one of the most advanced robot vacuums that ZDNet has evaluated. It has a high-powered battery that can vacuum an entire home in less than two hours. Additionally, it can switch between vacuuming and mopping by pressing one button. It automatically empties the dust bin above its charging station, unlike other self-emptying robots that require you to empty it after each run.
It comes with a variety of other features that make it a good choice for homes with a lot of space, including intelligent obstacle avoidance that utilizes both a camera and processor-powered intelligents to identify obstacles. It is rarely derailed or stuck during a cleaning process. In my tests it was the most effective in avoiding objects such as power cables. It is not as accurate in detecting pet waste or other dangers.
2. Eufy RoboVac Hybrid X8
Although Anker-owned Eufy has earned an impact in the field of low-cost robot vacuums, it's not yet an all-in-one model that can also mop. This is changing with the X8 Hybrid, which has an impressive suite of advanced features and can compete well against much more expensive models.
Laser navigation is the main selling point of this machine. Previous Eufy devices have constructed an approximate map of your home by using infrared sensors and bumping into objects, but the X8's laser mapping technology is much more accurate. It takes less time to build a comprehensive map of your home. It can also store multiple maps. This is perfect for homes with multiple floors.
The X8 is a great vacuum cleaner for floors with no dust. It can easily sling debris through the side brushes and into its 400ml dust bin. The X8's tyres, despite their circular shape, are very good at grabbing corners and edges. It's not a great kitty litter scooper, however, with our tests showing it only removes about 90 percent of the fur off hard floors.
There's a basic mopping mode which uses the same water tank as the vacuuming. While this is good for spills that aren't too big, you can't regulate the amount of water it is using which can limit its effectiveness for more serious staining. However, it does an excellent job of picking up pet hair, with a higher percentage of hair removal than the Roborock S7.
3. Miele RX2
Awarded for its quiet and efficient home appliances Miele's RX2 robot vacuum comes with outstanding cleaning power, beautiful design, and a great navigation. There are a few niggles in its operation that keep it from being named the top smart robot vacuum.
Similar to the latest models of iRobot like the RX2 comes with dual-sensor mapping technology which uses a LIDAR sensor to map an area and three 3D scanning cameras that can detect and avoid obstacles (like furniture legs or pet waste) in real time. Once the room is mapped the app allows you to create virtual no-go zones as well as favorite sections that the robot will clean automatically. You can also initiate cleaning manually or change the cleaning mode, see a live feed from the cameras onboard and more on the main screen.
The RX2's sensors work well in registering furniture and other obstructions in real-time. Its sweeping and suction power are top of the line and cleans up surface debris from medium-pile carpeting and embedded dust in bare floors. However, it's not the most agile robot on the market. Like many other robots it's not a great climber and has trouble with things like thresholds made of steel transition strips.
Some people buy a robot vacuum for the ease of setting a schedule in an app and not thinking about it for weeks at one time. But it's important that a robot is able to get the job done and that's the reason why our ZDNet staff tested and reviewed several of the most popular models to help you find the perfect one for your home.
4. Shark ION
This budget robovac is a robot that looks just like the other, but it has several more features and better performance. Its smart mapping system generates 3D and 2D maps of your home and uses them to navigate and avoid obstructions. It's even able to spot common obstacles like furniture legs and power cords in real-time. This combination of sensors along with a bump detector, and an infrared sensor that keeps the vacuum from stepping on steps makes it one our most agile vacuums.
It was able to walk over thick shag carpets and didn't get stuck (unlike the RoboVac 11s, or Roomba 690-). Its navigation abilities were also impressive. Its composite score for flooring and carpet beat the competition, and it was able to pick up 98.5% of pet hair from our laboratory test samples.
The controls are more basic than those of competitors. There's a round cleaning button on the top. You can access it via the app, or by voice commands with Alexa or Google Assistant. You can also set up a schedule for daily or weekly cleans, create no-go zones, and view its history of cleaning. In a smart dark gray plastics, Ion feels sturdy and looks stylish in your home. Its rear dust bin is easy to empty and removing the filter is equally easy.
5. Eufy 11S
Eufy 11S is a good option if you're looking for a robot vacuum that's simple and doesn't have any frills at a low cost. It isn't equipped with some of the smart features, such as digital mapping and Alexa integration, found in higher-end models, but if you're not looking for those functions you can save money by purchasing this model.
This robot is simple to set up and use. It does not require smartphone application or Wi-Fi pairing. However it does include a remote control which lets you choose between different modes and alter the suction level. You can also assign the robotvac to the schedule of cleaning.
During our tests, we found that the 11S was extremely efficient in getting dirt and fur from carpets and floors with low pile. Its slim profile allowed it to pass under furniture that is low-hanging and other items that some bulkier robots could not reach. It was able to pass easily over thresholds of doors and switch from one floor type to another.
The 11S, as with other robots, can also eat some objects, such as cords and cat toys. The manufacturer states that you can prevent this by keeping these items off the floor and by using an organizer for cords if you can. It also recommends cleaning the dustbin periodically by replacing the filters and changing or washing the brushes as required.
iRobot Roomba 990
The Roomba is the flagship model of iRobot's robot vacuum. It's pricey but it's an excellent performer and, in some ways, the most advanced robot vacuum you can buy. Its self navigation and environmental mapping are truly a marvel to behold. It also has more advanced automation features than many competitors, including the ability to set virtual boundary markers with its mobile app. Although the app is a little sluggish, and the 980 does spin out a bit while crossing cables, it's still a highly efficient robot vacuum.
We love the 980 due to its iAdapt2.0 navigation sensors and visual simultaneity localisation and mapping (or vSLAM) to remember the floor plan of your home. It will then use the information to create a consistent and efficient cleaning path for every cycle. The result is cleaner floors and a better robot vacuum than many high-end robotics.
robotvacuummops 's other features include dual multi-surface rubber brushes, which pick up dirt from hard floors and carpet as well as an ejector brush that moves debris into the robotic vacuum's bin. Its floor tracking sensors aid it navigate between furniture and around edges, and Cliff Detect keeps the Roomba from falling down the stairs. It also automatically returns to the base station for simple recharging in between sessions. Although the 980's battery life and bin size isn't as good as those of other robot vacuums it's a reliable and solid machine that will keep your floors clean for hours and hours.
